FAQ
1. WHAT IS CORE ENERGETICS THERAPY?
Developed by John Pierrakos, CET is a combination of John’s bioenergetics background and the psychological/spiritual concepts from Eva Pierrakos’s Pathwork Lectures. Click here to learn more about John’s journey to CET.

From the time we are born, we begin to organize our energy in order to cope with the pain of unmet needs and external life experiences while simultaneously attempting to integrate with, align with, or even protect our inner experience. As we are born and grow, we continue to try to reconcile our external and internal worlds by creating strategies and defenses with our energy spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically. Based on the concept that everything is a form of energy, that energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed, and that energy follows consciousness, it makes sense that we direct our energy and shape it into certain qualities that feel safe. This is the basis of Core Energetics theory and approach.

At the time, our defenses and strategies served us well; they helped us to adapt to the environment, stay alive, and keep our innermost, truest self from harm’s way. As adults we often continue to protect ourselves in this way, even though the original circumstances no longer exist. At some point, we become aware that our early life experiences are affecting our adult life, and realize we may be limiting ourselves; our abilities, creativity, connection with others…….whatever the limitation, it IS possible to re-organize ourselves, resulting in consciously using our energy to serve our highest self and purpose. Here lies the crux of the work.

The Core Energetics practitioner provides a supportive helper role and aligns with our positive intention to expand our consciousness through self-awareness. They help us to engage with and explore our skillfully created energy systems and guide us in recognizing our resistance, tolerating and expressing difficult feelings, and ultimately connecting with our true, genuine energy current; our original “yes” to life.

2. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
$60 for a one hour session and $90 for ninety minutes. I recommend 90 minutes for the first session.
3. HOW DOES A SESSION WORK?
There will be a combination of talking, physical movement/exercises, breath work, and/or sound. The core energetics counselor will be following your energy and consciousness making specifics dependent on what is presenting on the day. Throughout the sessions, there will be time spent developing your objective observing self (OOS) as well as exploring the energies of mask self (MS), lower self (LS), and higher self (HS).

5. WHAT IS THE RECOMMENDATION FOR FREQUENCY OF VISITS?
In our experience the work is more effective and tangible with frequent visits. Most people commit to once a week or every other week. With that being said, taking care of yourself is better than not at all and the work remains helpful on a monthly basis, or every few weeks as well.
To begin with, we recommend choosing a rhythm based on your availability, finances, and willingness to commit. Once you have started you can reassess and adjust accordingly with more or less frequency.
6. WHAT PAPERWORK DO I NEED TO FILL OUT?
There are 2 forms:

1. Working agreement: sets up the basic structure of the therapeutic relationship by defining parameters of communication inside and outside of sessions, cost of services, cancellation policy, privacy and confidentiality, what to expect from doing body-centered counseling, and conscious closure.
2. Intake: series of questions designed to help understand your personal history (birth, family environment growing up, religious/spiritual influences and beliefs, health, childhood experiences etc), your current status regarding career, health, relationships, your goals for doing this work, and anything else you would like to share.
